September 9, 2020. Sunset 7:25 PM. San Francisco, CA.
The air this evening at least looked like it might belong on the planet Earth and not Mars as it did earlier in the day. However, it’s such a super white eerie light that I’ve never seen before—It seems to be this combination of the super bright LED streetlights overtaking what would be the fading ambient daylight. Those dark shadows. And the masks tell the rest of the unbreathable air quality story. No end in sight.
Day 172 Sheltering in place.
was the 13th year in an ongoing project, dedicated to the observation of the sun at every crossing of the horizon and to sharing the awareness of that moment with others (i.e. ring a bell). This year's invitation was for others to witness and share a sunrise or sunset each month. With the onset of covid19, came the mandate to shelter in place. Knowing that we would be at home each evening, we decided to ring a LOUD bell every sunset, marking the day's end to anyone within earshot.
