was the 13th year in an ongoing project, dedicated to the observation of the sun at every crossing of the horizon and to sharing the awareness of that moment with others (i.e. ring a bell). This year's invitation was for others to witness and share a sunrise or sunset each month. With the onset of covid19, came the mandate to shelter in place. Knowing that we would be at home each evening, we decided to ring a LOUD bell every sunset, marking the day's end to anyone within earshot.

Sunrise, 2/1/20, Oakland, California, by Eric Kupers
Sunrise 7:13 AM. 2/1/20
Oakland, California
A feather-down mattress of birdsong
Offered freely
For all of us
Lay down in this sound flood
Let it embrace your exhausted body
Sinking, sinking, sinking
Into feathered love
“Remember, remember, remember,”
Calls ancestor bird
“Remember the root of it all.
The light comes, and the light goes.
We sing it so.”
