was the 13th year in an ongoing project, dedicated to the observation of the sun at every crossing of the horizon and to sharing the awareness of that moment with others (i.e. ring a bell). This year's invitation was for others to witness and share a sunrise or sunset each month. With the onset of covid19, came the mandate to shelter in place. Knowing that we would be at home each evening, we decided to ring a LOUD bell every sunset, marking the day's end to anyone within earshot.

How Time Flies...
Feb 3, 2020. Sunset 6:18 PM.
In the Sky over Atalanta? Cincinnati?
Jangling my keys softly at 40,000 ft, as the sun sets on a flight full of passengers somewhere between Atlanta, GA and Cincinnati, OH. Breathtaking!
Apparently altitude does change the time of the sunset. The time stamp on this image is 18:18:45 PM EST, and the sunset times recorded for Atlanta & Cincinnati on February 3 are listed as 6:10 & 6:01 PM EST respectively.

ReplyDeleteOoooo Stunning! And I love that time travels differently the high you go-- that's a wrinkle I hadn't realized-- Oh Einstein strikes again-- It makes sense in a way that you have to travel faster on the outside of a circle to keep up with the points closer to the center. Thank you!!!
